Permanent Deferral Criteria

Important conditions that permanently disqualify blood donation

History of AIDS or being HIV positive

Hepatitis B or C infection

History of intravenous drug use

Blood cancer (leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease)

Chronic kidney disease requiring dialysis

Heart disease with ongoing symptoms

History of stroke or cerebrovascular disease

Chronic lung disease (severe asthma, COPD)

Insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus

History of organ transplantation

Chronic liver disease or cirrhosis

History of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD)

Bleeding disorders (hemophilia, von Willebrand disease)

Chronic seizure disorder or epilepsy

History of babesiosis or Chagas disease

Multiple sclerosis or other autoimmune diseases

History of tissue or dura mater transplant

Chronic mental illness with ongoing treatment

History of malaria in endemic areas

Chronic inflammatory conditions (severe arthritis)

History of human growth hormone treatment

Chronic use of immunosuppressive medications

History of tuberculosis with lung complications

Any condition deemed unsafe by medical staff
